I know a lot of fishermen. Not one of them is lacking when it comes to real "fishing sense". They catch fish and they know where to go and what to look for. When the fishing is no good anymore, they move on to another hole.
But not one of them would go fishing in a dry hole!
But that's exactly what a lot of pastors and churches are doing when they keep on doing things the way they always did them before, knowing full well that it is not working and hasn't worked for a long, long time. Gradually they see the water disappear from their favorite hole and out of blind hope throw their line in time and again. Doesn't make sense to me.
How blind can we be? Paul admonishes us to be awakened, and open our eyes, and come out of deep sleep and arise. Rom 13:11.
Let's go fishing for souls while we still can, while it is still day and a harvest that won't quit. By the way, some of the best fishing can be at night! Just use the light! The light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.

Bro. Daved, I donot agree with your "fishing in a dry hole" post. from all existing surveys that I can find there are apx. 70% of all people that are not affiliated with any Church. Granted there are more people in Houston Tx. than in Center Tx. but there are more in any location than we can reach and teach. and both of these are requirements of the Great Comission. the lack of people should never be a hinderance any where at any time. The first Church that I ever pastored was deep in the heart of Davy Crockett national forrest. and we were able to double in less than 18 months. Marlin Freeman
Hey Bro Marlin, good to hear from you. This is your first comment. You are always welcome on my blog.
My article was not really about a lack of people in a certain geographical location. It was about doing the same thing over and over again which doesn't reach the people that are already in that location.
My illustration may not have been the best but my attempt was to create an awareness of changing the way we do things in order to reach the 80% plus unchurched people around us.
I'm sure you agree that we must change our methods in order to catch the fish. Of course, you understand we don't change the message.
