Church Planting Research and Information Service

Would it help to change the name "Church Planting Committee" to "Church Planting Research and Information Service"?

If changing the name of this committee to a service will facilitate the creation of this kind of service for promoting church planting, then I would be for changing the name to a 'service'. Who will give me their input?

Talk to us if you are interested in seeing this kind of service being done in the ABA. Send us your thoughts either to dsmith5165@afo.net or here on this blog.

Your proposed committee/service seems to be for the purpose of information gathering and making suggestions for successful mission work.

In all honesty, I feel that the state of mission work and suggestions for improvement should be included in the mission report given by the secretary-treasurer of missions. However, since that is not happening to your satisfaction (I say your, because I have never been to a national messenger meeting, thus rendering my opinion unqualified), then perhaps you should get a group together for the purpose of research then share your data with the rest of the association.

To get this group/service/committee recognized as an official ABA body may not be realistic (at least, for the 2008 meeting), but I do suspect that there are some that will be interested in your findings. Of course, there will be those that are not interested.

I think I understand what it is that you really want, however. My impression is that you want the association to have a common and clear vision for the future and a clear direction. Such is only attainable if the churches of the association are following the leadership of the Lord. If they are not, then it does not matter what kinds of leadership and committees you have... the churches will be scattered abroad like sheep with no shepherd.

God bless you in your efforts, and with your ministry at Greater Heights.

Good thoughts Bro. David. However, I do not think that the idea will take off in the ABA, if for no other reason than the "Church Planting or Church Planter" language.

It is too much of a stumbling block for too many of our people who cannot see that it is nothing more than different terminology. The concept of the ministry is a good one, but I think it would need to have a different name, and unfortunately, have the stamp of approval by the folk on stage to ever get off the ground.

Its kind of like dating....If you don't ask the girl you'll never know if she would've gone out with you! Even if she says no the first time sometimes persistance can show her how much you really care!
With our churches dying at an alarming rate I think people are starting to see that people like you Bro. Smith....really care!!
